Arzana, May 13th, 2017. Marco Pajusco has also won the second stage of this sixth edition of the Sardinia Trail, Arzana-Desulo-Arzana of 42.00 Km, which was played today starting from Nuraghe Ruinas, the highest nuragic complex of Sardinia (1200 mt). The Veronese athlete, renowned international runner, has completed the route in 3h57m00s gaining the podium of the overall standings.
Even today, from the first kilometers of the stage, Pajusco has prevailed over the other competitors at a steady pace, followed by Tuscan Alessandro Michelucci who put himself in 2nd place in the overall ranking with a delay, compared to the first, of 37m52s. The Swiss Roberto Casavecchia slipped, instead, from second to fourth place in overall, with a 1h12m26s detachment from the first.
The third and absolute place but first in women's category is occupied by the Swiss Patrizia Besomi, "the Lioness" of this sixth edition, with a time of 5h01m48s.
Placed second in the women's category is Daniela Carpani, with 5 editions of the Sardinia Trail behind her, ending this stage in 5h28m20s, with a 26m32s disadvantage from the Swiss.
Today’s stage has been long and tough, but at the same time unique, which has seen as protagonists the incredible sceneries of the Gennargentu promontory, passing through Punta La Marmora, the highest peak of the island, leaving the running athletes breathless; always suggestive even for those who have been involved in this route for several editions.
A magnificent and warm sunny day, has welcomed the athletes, with a spectacular sky with clear blue colour and a pleasant mistral wind. Everyone in the race was ready and determined to gain their space within the rankings with much sweat, but never losing the smile, euphoria and strength to move forward throughout the race: a great value that distinguishes the true trailer.
Great satisfaction also for the first citizen of Arzana, Marco Melis, always active and available to host and support sports activities in his own territory "It’s been a great opportunity allowing the athletes of the Sardinia Trail to run but also to get to know and admire our territory."
Pajusco officially hires the title of the 6th Sardinia Trail, which is to end with the final - but not to be underestimated - stage of tomorrow, departing at 09.00 A.M. from Foxi beach in the Tertenia marina.
The arrival is scheduled around 11.00 on Museddu Beach in the marina of Cardedu at the La Rosa dei Venti kiosk.

Athletes' statements:

Marco Pajusco (ITA) "Running on the highest peak of Sardinia for the first time was really exciting. I am used to running between the Alps and the Dolomites, but Sardinia has nothing to envy. Today's route has been beautiful, well-traced, with a fantastic temperature. We ran so much, but we also enjoyed ourselves. Congratulations to the organization for the job done "

Alessandro Michelucci (ITA) "Today I have found the right conditions that, with a tighter pace from the first to the last km, have allowed me to improve in comparison to yesterday, passing from third to second place in the overall standings. I will try at any cost to keep this position also tomorrow. It is always exciting to run on the Gennargentu, between dense vegetation and wildlife that there masters."

Patrizia Besomi (CH) "Today's stage has been tough but at the same time unique, giving us fantastic views, which have nothing less than the mountains of Switzerland. Going back to these places for the second time was really amazing. I thank the organization for the availability. "
