The Urban Down Hill race in Cagliari

December 1, 2010
Wednesday 8 December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the spectacular, breath-taking downhill mountain bike race “King of the Castle” will return to the Castello Quarter, with a programme lasting the whole day (start at 10.30 am).

Now in its second year, after the huge success of last year’s debut, the race route will cover the flights of stairs, squares and narrow streets of the ancient quarter. Start is at  Piazza Palazzo, the finish line in Piazza Yenne.  The whole race track is highly spectacular, with the last leg being the steps of Santa Chiara, starting, as last year, from the flight of stairs of the  Cathedral and passing by the bastions and under the Tower of the Elephant.  An unusual, adrenaline-packed way of rediscovering the quaintest corners of this medieval burg, once the citadel of the mighty Spanish and Savoy rulers, and which on Wednesday will crown an altogether different king - powerful in his own right, but on two wheels. A king who once again might be a foreigner, given the participation of strong  Spanish, French and British athletes.
